Basecamp Resorts, a Canadian hospitality brand operating in Western Canadian mountain destinations, has announced a financial commitment of $150,000 over three years to support environmental organizations POW (Protect Our Winters) Canada and veritree. POW Canada is the Canadian branch of the U.S.-based nonprofit Protect Our Winters, founded by professional snowboarder and environmental activist Jeremy Jones. The organization unites outdoor enthusiasts, athletes, and brands to advocate for climate action through policy solutions.

Basecamp Resorts has pledged $25,000 annually for three years to support POW Canada’s advocacy and engagement campaigns. These include initiatives such as “$now Me the Money,” which encourages public action through petition signing and raising awareness of climate issues. Basecamp will also assist with events, activations, and fundraising initiatives. The company is also taking steps to improve sustainability within its operations, including investments in energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction measures.

Basecamp is also partnering with Vancouver-based veritree, a restorative platform that connects businesses with verified reforestation projects. Veritree uses data-driven methods to address climate change, enhance biodiversity, and restore ecosystems.

Basecamp will contribute $25,000 annually over three years to support reforestation projects in Alberta and British Columbia. These include areas affected by wildfires and Alberta’s Sawle Lake Smart Forest, a veritree initiative. The partnership will also involve activations, awareness campaigns, and community engagement efforts. Basecamp plans to provide a progress tracker on its website, showcasing the verified impact of its contributions, including the number of trees planted.

Sky McLean, founder and CEO of Basecamp Resorts, emphasizes the importance of these efforts: We continue to witness firsthand the devastating impacts of climate change on the lands and communities across British Columbia and Alberta that we operate in — places that we love and respect deeply. Through these new partnerships, our goal is to make a meaningful impact and to give back to the environments that give so much to us. We are proud to support POW and veritree as they work to restore and protect Canada’s most precious resources. These collaborations align with Basecamp’s commitment to sustainability and to caring for the places where we live, work and play.”

McLean adds that safeguarding Western Canada’s natural landscapes, from forests and trails to wildlife and ski terrain, is integral to the company’s mission: Basecamp Resorts has always been dedicated to serving Western Canada’s mountain destinations and everything they offer — from lakes, forests, and trails to ski terrain, wildlife, and natural wonders. This has allowed us and our guests to experience countless unforgettable moments, and it is our responsibility and duty to protect these lands for future generations to explore.”

As the hospitality industry continues to respond to the challenges of climate change, initiatives like these demonstrate a proactive approach to supporting natural ecosystems.
