Choice Hotels Canada names two new franchise development leaders
Choice Hotels Canada has announced the addition of two new franchise development leaders, Mike Macklem and Shawn Campbell.
Both directors of franchise development, Shawn Campbell now oversees British Columbia and Yukon, and Mike Macklem covers Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.
Campbell joins Choice Hotels Canada from Canadian Western Bank, where he was the senior manager of business development and maintained a portfolio of large, diversified commercial clients. Prior to that, he held roles at BMO Financial Group as regional market leader, business development, Tim Hortons as a district manager, and Red Robin, where he homed in on the franchising business.
Macklem joins Choice Hotels Canada after previous roles as senior manager, hotel financing at Canadian Western Bank, director of business development at Masterbuilt Hotels, and other real estate, financing, and hospitality roles. At Masterbuilt Hotels, Macklem was responsible for Canadian hotel and franchise development expansion for Microtel by Wyndham.

Choice Hotels Canada has had a steady flow of hotels entering its system with 43 new properties joining since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020. In the last 12 months alone, the company has had 14 new hotel openings from coast to coast.
