TORONTO — To help Toronto hoteliers manage bookings throughout the summer season, Expedia group is presenting summer data reflecting key periods to focus on, booking information, as well as key highlights from a recent Airplane and Hotel Etiquette Survey Expedia conducted.
Hotel-related findings of the survey are as follows:
— 68 per cent of Canadians feel that its inappropriate at a vacation rental to wear host clothes/shoes [more relevant to vacation rentals than hotels].
— 81 per cent feel that Wi-Fi is a very important hotel amenity to have.
— 71 per cent believe that price is very important when booking a hotel.
Toronto Summer Holidays: Canada Day Weekend
Expedia also looked at international room stays in Toronto on the Canada Day Weekend. They found a year over year increase in international room night stays by nearly 20 per cent in 2018; compared to a nearly 10 per cent in 2017. Stats for 2019 are still to come.
Expedia also found a year over year increase in domestic room night stays by over 20 per cent in 2018.
2018 Bookings
Expedia noted that there was a 30 per cent increase in mobile Toronto room night bookings year over year through mobile in 2018.
Toronto had the highest increase in room night bookings through mobile compared to Vancouver (nearly 20 per cent) and Montreal (nearly 30 per cent).

About the 2019 Airplane and Hotel Etiquette Survey
This study was conducted on behalf of Expedia by Northstar Research Partners, a global strategic research firm. The survey was conducted online from April 12-29, 2019 across North America, Europe, South America and Asia-Pacific using an amalgamated group of best-in-class panels. The study was conducted among 18,237 respondents across 23 countries.
For the Canadian specific data, a sample of 1,000 random adults who travelled by airplane and stayed in a hotel or vacation rental in the past year was surveyed. Those who had not travelled by air or stayed in a hotel or vacation rental were disqualified.
