Choice Hotels Canada has announced the latest addition to its Ascend Hotel Collection with the opening of the newly built Halifax Tower Hotel & Conference Centre at 15 Lakelands Boulevard in the Bayer’s Lake region of Halifax. The Ascend Hotel Collection is a network of upscale resorts, historic properties and boutique hotels.
Guests can now book at the hotel, located next door to another Choice Hotels property, the Comfort Hotel. Both properties are owned by Stephanie Giannoulis and the new Ascend property will be overseen by the same team of operators.
The Comfort Hotel has won eight platinum Guest Satisfaction Awards over the years and has also been named Canadian Hotel of the Year in 2015 and 2020. It also has seven APEX awards (awards for property excellence) under its belt, including Leader of the Year for its general manager, Nimfa Bautista.
“We’ve long had the desire to expand in our area since we opened our original 73 rooms in 2011,” says Stephanie Giannoulis, owner of both the Comfort Hotel and Halifax Tower Hotel & Conference Centre. “I am especially proud to see this project completed, as it’s been an evolution of development—from my father’s restaurant, Canadiana, to the Comfort Hotel and now the Halifax Tower Hotel & Conference Centre. We are so excited to begin welcoming guests.”
The new property is suited for both leisure and corporate travel, as well as large group events. There is a conference centre with four meeting spaces, accommodating social gatherings, weddings and corporate meetings, including an imperial ballroom for up to 320 people. The 180-seat onsite restaurant, Le Rouge, is open for lunch and dinner. There is an indoor heated pool and hot tub, fitness centre, electric vehicle charging stations, as well as a games lounge.
“Halifax is an important market for us and we were delighted when the Comfort team in Bayer’s Lake wanted to build a new Ascend Collection Hotel property,” says Brian Leon, CEO, Choice Hotels Canada. “Their expertise, knowledge of the local market and attention to detail will undoubtedly ensure the success of this beautiful new addition.”
With 103 guest rooms and suites, the in-room amenities include 50-inch smart TVs with Chromecast connections and outstanding city or lake views. The whirlpool suites feature king beds, kitchenettes and large living spaces over 500 square feet. Select deluxe rooms come equipped with fireplaces and two-person whirlpool tubs.
