Marriott reportedly plans to launch a dedicated outdoor-focused collection in 2025, leveraging these two key partnerships.
“Marriott has long been committed to offering incredible travel experiences for every trip purpose. As guests are increasingly interested in nature-immersive travel, we are excited to build on the incredible breadth of our portfolio and welcome the Postcard Cabins and Trailborn portfolios to Marriott Bonvoy as we deliver more accommodations and experiences in awe-inspiring destinations,” says Leeny Oberg, chief financial officer and executive vice president, development, Marriott International. “Whether you’re looking for bespoke lodging near natural wonders, an elevated camping experience, or off-the-beaten-path excursions in nature, our planned outdoor-focused collection is expected to offer a broad array of options for seasoned adventurers and first-time explorers.”
Postcard Cabins: modern nature retreats
Postcard Cabins, which Marriott has fully acquired, operates a network of over 1,200 cabins across 29 properties in the United States. These tiny cabins are designed to help travellers disconnect and enjoy nature, located within two hours of major metropolitan areas. Each property features private bathrooms, full kitchens, and ample space for relaxation. The cabins are dog-friendly and built for individuals, couples, or small groups seeking a peaceful retreat.
Trailborn: bespoke hotels for outdoor adventurers
Marriott has also entered into a long-term agreement with Trailborn, a brand known for its design-forward hotels located near iconic outdoor destinations. Trailborn’s portfolio includes properties near Rocky Mountain National Park, the Grand Canyon, and other notable locations, with additional projects under development in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, and Mendocino, California.
Franchise opportunities
Marriott’s new outdoor-focused collection, set to include both Postcard Cabins and Trailborn properties, will provide opportunities for franchisees and developers to affiliate with Marriott’s growing portfolio. The brand’s powerful reach, including its Marriott Bonvoy program with over 219 million members, is expected to attract strong interest from operators in the upscale and upper-upscale segments.
The integration of Postcard Cabins and Trailborn into Marriott’s platforms, including Marriott.com and the Marriott Bonvoy mobile app, is expected in 2025. The financial terms of the transactions have not been disclosed.
