A new Hyatt Place hotel property in Whitehorse, Yukon has announced its opening date for Spring 2025—designed by LOLA Architecture for Northern Vision Development LP (NVD).
“Due to the unique remote location, our task was far from conventional—we aimed to create a hotel that didn't just bear the Hyatt name but also resonated deeply with its Yukon surroundings. The design inspiration sprang from the extremes of light and dark that paint the canvas of Yukon's seasons. Within these walls, you'll discover subtle hints of whimsy, as gold, brass and gem-tone accents pay tribute to the storied gold rush days that echo through the region's history. The textured material palette also pays homage to the clay cliffs that surround the project in downtown Whitehorse,” says a spokesperson for LOLA Architecture.
Hyatt Place boasts a robust concrete podium on the main floor which will be exposed to view, while the suites above take shape with wood frame construction. To battle the Yukon's cold winter days, it has fortified the structure with a resilient building envelope and an incredibly efficient mechanical system. The dedication to energy efficiency extends further as the design company has gone beyond NECB requirements to combat the challenges of high energy costs in the Yukon.
