Realstar Hospitality's president and CEO, Irwin Prince, speaks at the 2024 Ontario Hospitality Conference by ORHMA.

Spearheaded by veteran ORHMA board director Jason Cheskes, this year's event set new benchmarks for the industry gathering, with over 450 registered attendees, a vendor marketplace of more than 50 exhibitors, and the most extensive sponsorship support in the conference’s history.

The two-day event kicked off with an engaging networking reception, where ORHMA leaders outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at bolstering the talent pipeline for Ontario’s hospitality sector. This opening was highlighted by the prestigious “OHI – We Are Hospitality” Hall of Fame Awards, previously known as the Fellows of the OHI, which celebrated 10 inductees, alongside past recipients, for their substantial contributions to the hospitality industry over the course of their careers. A full list of winners is available on the We Are Hospitality website.

The following day’s agenda delivered a comprehensive suite of sessions led by master of ceremonies, chef John Higgins, a respected figure in the culinary world. Topics spanned pressing issues facing the industry, with particular attention to human trafficking awareness—a first for the conference. Michelle Furgiuele, a survivor and advocate for Timea’s Cause, shared a moving account of her experiences, offering valuable insights to an audience of industry leaders. The day proceeded with panels and discussions tailored to owners, operators, and general managers, covering relevant strategies and operational best practices.

Attendees also had the opportunity to explore the supplier marketplace, which featured a diverse range of vendors offering solutions across hospitality products and services. The conference concluded with an energizing raffle where delegates received more than $12,000 in prizes provided by the vendors.

Reflecting on the event’s impact, David Blades, senior vice president of Realstar Hospitality and past ORHMA chair, shared, “We were very happy to participate in the conference and were impressed with the quality of the event and value that is delivered to industry operators. It’s also important to us to support a key association working for the betterment of the industry and the operators in it. General managers, owners, and all that operate hospitality businesses can gain great information to take back to their operations by attending. Great job!”

Realstar Hospitality's president and CEO, Irwin Prince, also delivered a speech at the conference.

The next Ontario Hospitality Conference is already on the calendar for October 20-21, 2025, promising another invaluable opportunity for hospitality professionals to learn, network, and advocate for the industry's future.

“Special thanks to Frank Yeo of Mercury Publications for coordinating the event’s photography,” says a spokesperson for ORHMA.
