In response to rising economic pressures and U.S.-imposed tariffs, the Ontario government has launched an $11 billion relief initiative to support workers, safeguard jobs, and ensure business continuity across the province.
Key Measures Include:
Tax Deferrals:
From April 1 to October 1, 2025, the province is deferring select provincially administered taxes—such as the Employer Health Tax and Gasoline Tax—providing approximately $9 billion in cash flow support to 80,000 businesses.
WSIB Rebates:
A second $2 billion Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) surplus rebate is being issued to reward safe employers. This follows the $2 billion distribution that took place in March 2025.
Worker Support Initiatives:
Ontario has removed the $150 fee for apprentices taking their first Certificate of Qualification exam, saving each individual around $330. The government has also unlocked $400 million in WSIB-funded health and safety programs to ensure workplace protection and wellness.
Enhanced LCBO fee relief for licensees:
In a major win for the hospitality sector, the Ontario government has announced an increase in the LCBO discount for licensees—from the previous 10 per cent to 15 per cent—effective immediately and continuing through December 2025. This builds upon the earlier announcement of a 5 per cent fee reduction and represents a significant step toward financial relief for restaurants, bars, and hotels.
