Dhalla, CEO & president, Dhalla Group of Companies is the first woman of Indian origin to be elected as a member of parliament in Canada. She received the award at AAHOA’s 35th Annual Hotel Convention in Orlando, Fla.

The award recognizes a woman hotelier for strong leadership and a commitment to lodging excellence and significant contributions to the hospitality industry. The award applauds Dhalla’s achievements and contributions in her short time in the hospitality industry — despite her entry into the industry being prompted by a personal tragedy. Since the sudden passing of her brother, Dr. Neil Dhalla; she assumed his responsibilities in the hospitality arena and has worked since then to lead, build, and grow her team and company with the creation of a hotel fund and strategic hotel acquisitions in the USA and UAE markets.

This focus on excellence and forward-thinking initiatives has resulted in the company setting new benchmarks for success and driving positive change in the market.

"We are thrilled to recognize Dr. Ruby Dhalla’s outstanding leadership and trailblazing achievements," says Bharat Patel, chairman, AAHOA. "Her drive as an entrepreneur to excel, her dedication to champion women's initiatives and her determination to create opportunities for future generations exemplifies the spirit of #HerOwnership and this award.
