Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile, the Canadian flagship of the Sofitel brand, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a significant refurbishment. This marks a milestone as the first Sofitel establishment in North America to undertake such a comprehensive transformation.
Located on Sherbrooke Street, the five-star hotel sits at the heart of Montreal, close to key attractions like Mount Royal, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, luxury boutiques, and gourmet restaurants. Over the past two decades, Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile has established itself as a premier destination, offering a blend of French elegance and local culture.
The establishment boasts 256 rooms, including 17 suites, a bar, the renowned Renoir restaurant, and over 10,000 square meters of meeting and event spaces.
The refurbishment project, led by the award-winning 2pir Design firm, is supported by a substantial investment and aims to rejuvenate the hotel’s ambiance. The renovations will begin with the restaurant and entrance hall, expected to be completed by Fall 2024. Common areas, including meeting rooms and the fitness center, will follow by the end of 2024, with guest room updates anticipated by Spring 2025. Despite the ongoing renovations, the hotel will remain operational, ensuring that guests continue to receive the high-quality service for which Sofitel is renowned.
Marc Pichot, the general manager of Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile, highlighted the importance of this project, stating, “More than 20 years after Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile’s debut, we have reached a significant milestone. This complete refurbishment illustrates our dedication to providing bespoke service and a renewed customer experience, fusing Montreal’s local culture with Sofitel’s signature French elegance.”
The refurbishment will introduce a more modern aesthetic, incorporating a contemporary colour palette and elegant furnishings that reflect both Montreal’s vibrant spirit and Sofitel’s French charm. The cohesive new look aims to balance luxury with simplicity, creating an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere.
In addition to the overall hotel refurbishment, the Renoir restaurant, a staple in Montreal’s culinary scene, will also undergo a significant transformation. Executive chef Olivier Perret will continue to offer dishes that blend local ingredients with international flavours, in a newly designed, contemporary, and relaxed setting. A new bar will also be introduced, featuring a unique menu and ambiance.
“Renoir, a beloved downtown destination for Montrealers, is thrilled to unveil its enhanced offerings,” said Marc Pichot. “Guests can look forward to new menus, a dedicated bar area, and a complete space redesign, all while preserving its core essence and renowned quality of service.”
With the three-phase refurbishment project set for completion by Spring 2025, Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile is poised to embark on a new chapter, continuing to deliver a unique luxury hotel experience that embodies the spirit of the Sofitel brand.
