The Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) recently shared insights with tourism leaders at its week-long annual tourism congress. Emerging themes included:
- Recovery is certainly underway, but highly differential by destination and by *type* of destination
- Canada's competitive position is improving, but still in a hangover state reputationally
- Workforce challenges threaten to constrain any potential growth
- Sustainability - ecological and community - needs to permeate all forward strategies
“Momentum has turned positive, for sure. There are encouraging tailwinds. And there are ample headwinds as well - some lingering challenges from the pandemic, and some entirely new ones. The opportunity for Canada and Toronto through the visitor economy is as significant as ever,” said Andrew Weir, executive vice president, destination development at Destination Toronto (formerly Tourism Toronto).
