CALGARY —Travelodge Canada is announcing a new partnership with social enterprise, Clean the World, a global leader in WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) and sustainability. Clean the World, and its subsidiary in Canada, is dedicated to saving millions of lives worldwide, while also diverting hotel waste from landfills.
The innovative organization recycles soap and bottled bath amenities from hotel partners and delivers to children and families suffering from hygiene-related illnesses such as pneumonia and cholera.
To date, Clean the World and its partners have distributed more than 50 million soap bars in 127 countries, diverted over 20 million pounds of hotel waste, and contributed towards a 60 per cent reduction in the death rate of children under the age of 5.
“We are immensely proud and excited to be partnering with Clean the World,” said Trevor Hagel, executive vice-president, operations, Travelodge Canada. “Our hotels are focused on environmental sustainability and Clean the World’s mission is in alignment with our efforts. We look forward to contributing to the reduction of unnecessary landfill waste and helping save the lives of children and families worldwide.”
This exciting partnership launched this month, with all 100 Travelodge properties in Canada participating. Hotels have begun collecting discarded soap and bottled bath amenities such as shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. The soap will be recycled into brand new bars at a Clean the World recycling centre. Together, Clean the World and these Travelodge properties expect to divert over 32,000 pounds of waste and distribute over 108,000 bars of soap to at-risk communities worldwide annually.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Travelodge team for participating in the Clean the World recycling program,” says Shawn Seipler, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Clean the World. “This sustainable solution has a life-changing mission. Soap, which is often taken for granted, brings dignity and health to those in need.”
